You just bought a boat, congratulation! Welcome to the boat owners club (our favorite club) where lifetime memories are made and weekends on the water are a way of life.
Whether you purchased a brokerage boat or a brand new boat there are a few simple things that all boat owners can do to maintain the value of your boat. Because you never know when the day may come that you want to list your boat.

Here are 4 key tips on how to maintain the value of your vessel:

  1. Regularly Scheduled Topside Wash-downs And Detailing
In order to maintain the gel coat on your boat and keep it looking in tip top shape it is important to get your boat on a regular topside wash-down schedule. This might mean washing it yourself or hiring a local company that specializes in boat cleaning services. This should be done bi-weekly or monthly at a minimum. In addition to topside washdowns, routine waxing/detailing is also highly recommended, especially if your boat is located where the weather is warmer and the sun shines a majority of the days, like Florida or Southern California. Full detail & wax should be done twice per year.
  2. Regularly Scheduled Hull Bottom Cleanings
If your boat stays in the water then it most likely has bottom paint. It is important to schedule regular cleanings to maintain the condition of your bottom paint and guarantee that it lasts as long as possible. Depending on the water temperature regular bottom cleanings usually happen 1-2 per month. In addition to cleanings most dive companies also perform a hull inspection and will replace any zincs or anodes that need replacing at the time.
  3. Address Issues as They Arise
We all know that when we push issues aside they build up quickly. The last thing you want is a long punch list of items to repair when you go to list your boat. Whether big or small, be sure to address issues as they arise one by one to maintain the value of your boat.
  4. Monthly Inspection By 50 Yacht Management Team
Lastly, but certainly not least, have monthly inspections preformed on your boat where all systems from bow to stern are checked and confirmed to be working properly or in good condition.
